The Flint, Michigan rain barrel project was an inspirational and enlightening experience. We constructed the rain filters from recycled pickle barrels. Holes were drilled into the barrels to insert the spigots and mesh was cut into circle to create a mosquito and debris barrier. The construction process became an assembly line of teamwork and the project was completed in no time. It was great to see everyone working together for the people of Flint, and I’m so glad I could be a part of making someone else’s lives healthier, easier, and stable. The appreciation from the citizens as we loaded the barrels into their cars was undeniable and heartwarming. As a service program we can continue doing these impactful activities for others and promote the restoration of thriving communities.
