Day 3 in Detroit Michigan was very down-to-earth. In the beginning of the day we went to the Lafayette Greens garden stationed among the city buildings in Detriot. Formerly a 14-story vacant building, it was beautiful to see the positive use of unwanted land. I helped cut dead appendages off of the plants and drew a chalkboard sign to welcome people to the garden. The second half was a much more work-intensive job at the Detroit Market Garden. This garden used to be an old paint factory that had been abandoned. I helped pullout winter grass and wheelbarrow compost to new rows of the garden. I am amazed by the contributions of these citizens to provide food for others in the city. The power of giving is immense and the strongest to those in need. It’s a superpower within all of us!
