Over the past few days, I have learned a lot about how a small action can change a community. We have installed numerous rain barrels and beautifyed two gardens. We have spoken to numerous members of the community and residents hearing their stories about how the water crisis has affected them.
On the last day of the trip, we gardened two Greening of Detroit Gardens. At the first garden we picked carrots and maintained the garden’s beauty. I used a push mower to cut the grass which as very interesting. At the second garden, we pushed wheelbarrows and picked grass. Each of the gardens provided a source of food for members of the community. This also teaches residents to grow organic food in a large city. Overall, I was able to provide help to those in need over the entirety of the trip and also learned a lot about myself during that time.
